The FDOT District Six Incident Management Program delivers a coordinated, real-time approach to detecting, responding, and clearing traffic incidents. Traffic operators at the STMC actively monitor the roads and dispatch field responders to clear incidents and restore traffic flow.
Depending on the severity of the event, they will dispatch Road Rangers, Incident Response Vehicle (IRV) units, or will activate the Rapid Incident Scene (RISC) service for more complex events. Additionally, District Six works with emergency responders like law enforcement and fire rescue who assist on the scene when needed.
The combination of technology, active traffic management, and multi-agency field coordination promote safe and quick clearance of traffic events in South Florida.

The District Six Road Ranger Program provides motorist assistance and incident clearance support along the state freeway system in Miami-Dade County.
Road Rangers patrol the freeways and are staged at strategic locations on the road to provide quick clearance and response. They help stranded motorist with minor vehicle repairs and towing assistance. They also support first responders by securing active incident scene and ensuring work zone safety. with roadside assistance services like minor vehicle repairs and towing. They also help emergency response personnel by securing incident scenes for safe and quick clearance.

24 Hours per day, seven days per week
The Incident Response Vehicle (IRV) drivers serve as FDOT’s official representative on the field. They have an extensive law enforcement or fire rescue background and are uniquely skilled to oversee incident clearance coordination for both managed lanes and general use lanes on the Interstate 95, Interstate 75, and State Road (S.R.) 826 in Miami-Dade County.

The Rapid Incident Scene Clearance (RISC) Program focuses on the rapid clearance of major crashes involving heavy-duty vehicles that result in significant roadway blockages due to spilled loads or other complex conditions.
Traffic operators activate RISC under pre-established criteria and dispatch approved vendors equipped with specialized towing and recovery resources to clear incidents and restore travel lanes.
This coordinated, specialized response has shown to reduce incident duration times compared to traditional private towing services.
